The Jemusic Basic Song Construction Package

Introduction
This is obviously intended for Melbourne people but if you are interstate and coming over for any reason we could book ahead!!
It could also apply to instrumental pieces. And to bands, if you think you can record one or two tunes in say 3 hours then I can still mix and master two pieces for the same cost. Drums supplied!

I am getting a lot of people wanting to record songs and turn melodic, chordal and lyrical ideas into quality finished products. As a result of this I have devised a new song package from Jemusic.

It is called the Basic Song Construction Package.

What you need before we start!

Time for some basic music song theory.

Songs in the broader form contain larger blocks of music that can be called intro, verses and choruses. Within these blocks we have lyrics and the lyrics are sung in accordance to a melody line that contains rhythm and this lyric melody exists over a chord or harmonic progression. All singers know the lyric and its melody for verses and choruses but sometimes don’t necessarily know the harmony or chords.

Singers who know the melody AND the chord progression.

If you are a singer songwriter and you play an instrument, then you obviously know your chords already and you also need to know your song (or cover song) in its basic form. You can have the lyrics and melody written out as well as chords. But often singers know the melody and this is fine as long as the chords are written somewhere. Chords can be written out either over lyrics or as a basic chord chart.

If you are a singer only, and do not play an instrument then you need to supply the sheet music or chord progression to the song. Having the chords ready will speed up and help the process a lot and the price applies to chord progressions being supplied.

Singers who know the melody but DO NOT have the chord progression

These singers usually do not play an instrument otherwise they would know the chords.

If you do not have a chord progression then I can work it out for you and create then the chords necessary to complete the music backing and also a chord chart for you but this will be at extra cost (at hourly rate and depends on time required to do so)

So the cost goes up slightly due to the time involved in working out the chords. Either to your original melody or a cover song.

(Note I prefer original songs, but if you record covers, then the laws of copyright apply if you want to release or sell this product, it is your responsibility for this!)

Now we can get started

You can record to a click track but if you cannot, then you do not have to. I will tempo map the initial recordings to the click later for further construction.
No need to worry about intros or endings, they will sort themselves out and can be added later.

I have come up with a 5 hour studio package for only min $330! (inc GST)

Stage 1 (1 Hour)
Listen and work out song and become familiar with its overall feel etc. Record vocals and a basic guitar or piano track (If you play guitar/piano as a singer song writer) If you are singer only, then we will a record basic chord progression with piano first with sheet music or chord progression supplied. Then record vocals.

Stage 2 (2 Hours)
I will use my extensive musical skills to play live drums and a variety of instruments over the top of your song. Using high quality (the best) synthesisers I can effectively create bass, guitars, piano, organ, any synth sounds, strings, orchestra sounds and more. The backing will be realistic, competent, effective, musical and most of all tasteful. If you are inclined and play other instruments yourself, you may add your own parts as well as mine.

Stage 3 (1 1/2 Hours)
I will do a fine stereo mix of all the instruments and vocals. I will use all the resources of my studio (and that is extensive) to bring you a very very high quality mix. I am a very experienced mix engineer and this is very important!

Stage 4 (1/2 hour)
Mastering and fine tuning and editing of song. eg clean up starts and ends. The mastering process is vital and I am also an experienced mastering engineer. I will give your song more attitude, make it louder and very ‘radio ready’ This will separate your music from the rest on websites like myspace etc. After mastering we create CD Audio, Wave and mp 3 files suitable for immediate upload to myspace or websites etc. Burn CD for customer ready to take then and there.

Upgrade Packages

Even after only one package you will have a superb result but you may take it further if you want. Living with the first stage for a while will give you lots of ideas for the following stages if you decide to go further with the song. I will keep a complete backup of the entire first session including any analog settings as well as digital. This means total recall later if required. For another $330 I will open and recall the entire session in the first ½ hour. We can overdub new vocals, extra musicians or anything else you require.

It does not matter if you do not know any session players. I have a wide network of musicians that include guitarists, bass players, singers, keyboard players, woodwind players, classical musicians, world musicians, etc etc Obviously the cost goes up here but if you allow say $120 for each additional musician for 3 hours each you can get a lot of work done in that time!

As you have the stage one already then you or any other musicians will be very well prepared for the second session. We can allocate 2 ½ hours for this extra overdubbing process. The remaining 2 hours can be a remix and master. This will elevate your production up to a higher level and will be more natural in sound, live and lush, epic etc. This level would be more suitable for album release.

A further session could do the same and take the song into the stratosphere!

All for only $990 (inc GST) for three 5 hour sessions.

What are the benefits of constructing songs over several stages?

The most obvious one is you the creator of the song gets to live with stage 1 for as long as you need. A week, month etc. There is no substitute for this. Too often, complete songs are done in one session and things become apparent later that you may not like and want to change and its too late to change them. This is because people are often creating and recording under pressure and important things slip through and get missed! Things like not so good vocal and instrument performances but especially things being recorded out of tune and it was not noticed at the time!

But by living with and really listening to your first session many times then you will get to know it very carefully and then you will know exactly what needs to be done in the second or third session. I have found this to be the most successful way to do it and will always give a much better end result.

Overseas customers can also take advantage of this deal!

All it takes is for you to do your own vocal performances. Send me a stereo file with your click on one side and your vocal performance on the other. I can import this into my software. Line up my metronome to yours and away we go. I can build a beautiful music soundscape and mix it all and send it back to you! This includes Hip Hop artists, any style or genre!

Dont forget that you can send me multitrack sessions as well just for mixing and I can add more parts to your existing multitrack sessions if you want them. I can then either mix or send multi sessions back to you. I have been doing quite a lot of regular work mixing other people's tracked sessions and they are happy because mixing is a fine art really and takes years of experience.

Jeff can work with the arrangements of the songs to take them forward to their final completed state.

Post Production Audio Services

The Jemusic studio is capable of SMPTE time lock to vision and Jeff has a lot of experience in mixing complete soundtracks for television and film.

From on location recording and editing and sweetening to a vast SFX collection as well as music production allows for these services to be provided.

We also have high quality voice over recording and editing facilities and can provide voice over talent if required.

We also specialize in sweetening audio recordings that are of poorer quality and can create often much higher quality soundtracks with the addition of sfx and additional music and improved original dialogue.

Jemusic has mixed many soundtracks for television and can make your soundtrack into better and more exciting sounding audio experience.

Theatre Sound Design/ Music Composing services

Jemusic can create theatre sound designs or sound tracks. Music can be composed to link scenes or underscore scenes in any genre. The music production system at Jemusic is well equipped for theatre. The Jemusic studio also has a large SFX collection as Jeff has been very interested in sound effects since the early 70's. We have collected and recorded many FX. Digital manipulation of SFX these days allows for some very interesting sound design. Jeff has composed ambient musical soundscapes and sound designs for theatrical productions, exhibitions and performances. Jeff has been teaching theatre sound at the NMIT. Jeff has always had a deep interest in combining music, sound effects and dialogue in theatrical situations for many years and this has branched over into audio visuals, film and television.

Tuition and Training

Jemusic provides a range of teaching and tutoring services for a variety of subjects and instruments. These can be one on one or small groups.

Jeff has been actively involved with many teaching institutions over the years. In Canberra, the Canberra School of Music and the CIT and in Melbourne, the JMC Academy, NMIT, Revolver, Kangan Batman TAFE (Teaching Computer Music Production to young men and women at the Melbourne Juvenile Justice Centre)

Jeff’s skills as a teacher are unique along with Louise’s many years of experience teaching violin.

Backing Tracks

If you are a solo performer that works with musicans live and you need quality backing tracks, the Jemusic studio is well equipped to make them. They can range from simpler midi tracks to more complex tracks with live musicians playing on them to make them sound more realistic. I play drums, percussion and piano and Louise can play violin as well. Only a few extra musicians who can play a variety of things can be added to make your backing tracks sound much more individual and original.

I have produced a few albums that started on home keyboards and after transferring the parts and rebuilding the song, then a very beautiful and powerful version results in the end.

Improving your exisiting Midi Files

I can also take your standard midi files and simply re assign them to high quality synthesisers and perform some more elaborate production on those instruments and your standard midi files will end up sounding much better. This process is cost effective.

Live MultiTrack Recording

I have the technology to bring a 16 track multitrack recorder and mixer (if required) and most often can connect to the existing live mixing console. This allows a multi track recording to be made live (16 tracks) with all the excitement of the live performance but with all the live sound sources captured separately.

Later production and mixing in the Jemusic studio allows for a perfect mix. This option is more cost effective than a full studio multi track session that would take place here for example. I have recorded Jazz ensembles, tribute bands and many other types of bands for demo purposes etc.
